M1C WW2
82d Airborne Divisional Military Police - MP - Helmet:
This is an original WW2 front seam, swivel bale, stainless
rim & batch dated helmet, repainted in Divisional MP colour's.
Many collectors turn their noses up at swivel
bales because they think they were not used till late in 1945
or post war. This is totally incorrect. There is now published
photographic evidence showing swivel bales being used from
July 1944 and several have been 'battlefield' found!
Now this helmet is batch numbered '89XA', where
X is an unknown character. So this helmet is dated to approximately
May 1944. This makes it one of the very first swivel bales
manufactured! You will find that early dated swivel bales
are increasingly difficult to find, so don't dismiss one if
offered, they are now VERY collectable!
This helmet is a WW2 swivel bale, stainless
rim and front seam repainted into 82d Airborne Divisional
Military Police colour's, taken from an original surviving
example! A superb M1C helmet. I had to repaint this as a previous
owner had stripped much of the original paintwork but now
it looks almost as issued. Notice the varnish over the decals,
as per the originals!
