1943 M1
Lieutenant's Helmet 327th Glider Infantry Regiment:
This is a refurbished WW2 helmet recreating the helmet worn
by a Lieutenant of the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment, 101st
Airborne.
The shell has been refurbished from an original
WW2 helmet, it is a front seam fixed bail M1 model as used
by the US Airborne in WW2. The painted decals are identical
to the WW2 versions and appropriately aged, this helmet is
properly aged and looks the part after 60+ years of life span!
The inside has been left in its original state in other words
the small rust pits are still visible. I have done this to
show its originality and out of respect to the helmets original
owner! The McCord quality check stamp 593 is inside the the
front shell and dates the helmet to July/August 1943.
There is a painted Lieutenant's Rank insignia
attached to the front, there is a 327th 'Clubs' decal on each
side and a officers ETO stripe down the rear. There is light
wear to the brim showing the early pattern McCord stainless
steel ridge and front seam.
Notice how the 'Clubs' have had previous ones
removed and later ones repainted, this was reasonably common
when troops thought they were to large or placed too high
up on the helmet or if they changed units as appears to be
the case with this helmet, notice the 'ticks'!
I have taken this helmet to several military
fairs and not one of the USA WW2 dealers could tell if the
decals were genuine or not! A superb airborne helmet for your
collection!
