M1 M1C 1er
RCP Paul Beaumont Helmet: This is a refurbished WW2
helmet and refurbished & post war components, recreating
the helmet worn by Paul Heinrich-Beaumont of the 1er RCP (Régiment
de chasseurs parachutistes). It has a USA Pathfinder Liner.
Paul Beaumont History:
Paul Heinrich was born in Alsace in 1904. Too
old to join the paratroopers he lied about his age and changed
his name to Beaumont. As he could speak German he served with
the 1er RCP as Intelligence Officer. He qualified as a paratrooper
at the 5th Army Parachutist School in Sicily. This is where
he was issued his liner bearing the American Pathfinder insignia.
As was normal for the French Paratroopers his helmet was the
standard M1 fixed bale.
Lt. Beaumont fought in the Vosges mountains
and Alsace taking part in several reconnaissance missions
far behind enemy lines. He received the Croix de Guerre after
bloody hand to hand fighting with the Germans at Alsace.
Outer Shell:
The shell has been refurbished from an original
WW2 fixed helmet, it is a front seam fixed bail M1 model.
The painted decals are identical to the WW2 versions, this
helmet has not been re-painted, it is as found and as close
the the original helmet I could find!
The inside McCord batch number is '126B', which
dates this to about April 1942. And the name 'Lt. P. Beaumont.
1er RCP.' is painted on the insider rear rim. There are two
tiny stress fractures at each of the bales, a typical early
McCord Helmet identifier.
The french flags have been painted on each side
as in the original and they both point forward, facing the
battle! The chinstrap is a replacement and has been carefully
aged.
Liner:
Most of the post war liner has been replaced
with post war authentic webbing and accessories. The liner
retaining clips are all nicely worn as is the leather chin
strap and cloth chin strap. The outside liner has WW2 style
rivets and rank insignia hole. The whole helmet liner has
been appropriate aged for an airborne M1C liner.
Notice the complete nape strap. The leather
chin strap is also fully complete and there is cracking of
the leather. There is a name tag on the inside of the helmet
and various WW2 manufacturer markings on the cotton fabric.
Notice the 'H' on the chinstrap, the 'SUN' on
the webbing, and the 'VOGT' stampings on the headband and
nape strap - all genuine and appropriate WW2 manufacturers
of these components. You will not find authenticity of this
standard on other helmets!
Finally, notice the USA Pathfinder insignia
on the left side of the helmet. This is a beautiful helmet
and has taken many hours to re-create. The original is in
the Musee de la poche de Colmar in Turckheim in France.
