Store: American Items: M1C Airborne Helmet Lieutenant Ambrose

Lieutenant Ambrose 551 PIB 82'd Airborne M1C Model American WW2 Helmet: This is a refurbished WW2 helmet and refurbished & post war components, recreating the helmet worn by a Lieutenant Ambrose of the 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion, 82'd Airborne. It is refurbished to look as it would during field conditions not like other helmets who look as if they have come of the production line, hence there are small dents, scrapes etc. - this is a genuine WW2 helmet!

Unit History:

The 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion is cited for exceptional heroism in performance of duty in combat against the enemy at the beginning of the American counter offensive in the Ardennes, Belgium, culminating In its heroic attack and seizure of the critical, heavily fortified, regimental German position of Rochelinval on the Salm River. A separate battalion attached to the 82nd Airborne Division, the 551st began its grueling days as the Division's spearhead by successfully executing a raid on advanced German positions at Noirfontaine on 27 and 28 December 1944, delivering to XVIII Airborne Corps vital intelligence for the Allied counteroffensive soon to come.

Outer Shell:

The shell has been refurbished from an original WW2 helmet, it is a front seam swivel bail M1C model as used by the US Airborne in WW2. The painted decals are identical to the WW2 versions and appropriately aged, unlike many many replicas this helmet is properly aged and looks the part after 60+ years of life span! The inside has been painted but left in its original state in other words the small rust pits are still visible. I have done this to show its originality and out of respect to the helmets original owner!

There is a metal Lieutenant's Rank insignia attached to the front, there is a palm tree decal on each side and a officers stripe down the rear. There is good wear to the brim showing the early pattern McCoy stainless steel ridge and front seam. The chin strap is the Airborne model with DOT popper studs and is suitable worn. The name 'Lt Ambrose' is painted inside the rear rim. Notice the camouflage paintwork on the helmet shell - a standard feature for many in this unit.

Liner:

Most of the post war liner has been replaced with post war authentic webbing and accessories. The owners has his name painted on the inner shell and also the words 'LT J A' painted on the sweatband. The liner retaining clips are all nicely worn as is the leather chin strap and Paratrooper 'A' frame straps. The outside liner has WW2 style rivets and of course Lieutenant rank marking and officers stripe. The whole helmet liner has been appropriate aged.

Notice the M-1C DOT female sockets in the liner and the complete nape strap. The leather chin strap is also fully complete. A superb WW2 Paratroopers Helmet!
