M37 Model
German Paratrooper Helmet Medic: Is based on a very
rare M37 model shell, but has been modified using M38 liner
and of course early pattern spanner bolts. It has the National
colour's and second pattern eagle decals.
The helmet has its original Luftwaffe Field
Grey colour and has been repainted in Cassino tan and finally
repainted in Normandy greens. The medic Geneva Red Cross was
applied directly onto the Cassino colouring without any white
background and was over sprayed to give the impression of
a circle!
The helmet has well rusted camouflage wire
added and the faint 'zig zag' shape can still be seen in the
wire. The wire is held together with rusted chicken wire.
The shell has several rust spots in places. Notice how the
paratrooper has used the M37 slots to help hold the wire in
place.
The inner lining is very well maintained yet aged, again
to reflect the period of use and 60+ years of ageing. The
lining rubber is black/grey to reflect a typical M38 lining.
There are two faded stamps in the liner leather. The helmet
shell is marked with the owners rank and name ('II/I Major
H. Hans'). There is also a helmet acceptance stamp inside
the dome of the shell. Notice the rusting to the helmet rim
and strap buckles. The straps are also aged yet still very
pliable and useable.
This helmet would make a superb item in your Luftwaffe Medic
Paratrooper collection.
This item also comes with an address label stamped '21 DEC
1944' and addressed from an 82'd US Airborne Sergeant to a
lady in Washington DC and a suitable aged box! A great item
for the German Paratrooper collector.
