No 4: M37
Model with M38 liner Fallschirmjägerhelm (Paratroopers
Helmet Normandy): This is an excellent reproduction
of a Luftwaffe (Air Force), Fallschirmjager Helmet.
It is based on a very rare M37 model shell, with late pattern
helmet bolts. It has been modified using M38 liner which was
common practice in mid-late war when earlier produced models
were pressed into service. Notice the slots at the side of
the helmet and the extra holes for retaining the original
liner at the sides and rear.
This helmet is based on one used at Normandy
in June 1944. It has its original luftwaffe blue/grey colour
and then has been overpainted in a tan/green colour which
has received much field wear in several places. The eagle
decal is 95% intact and 80% visible. The owner has has name
painted inside the helmet rim - 'Gefr. Stein' . Notice the
thick cotton camouflage net, a very common addition during
the Normandy campaign. The net is applied via strong string
and hangs down to cover the face. A very rusty wire will hold
the net away from the face when not required!
Check out the ageing to this helmet, it is
superb, the liner has the look and feel of a 60+ year old
field used helmet as has the shell!
This helmet would make a superb item in you
paratrooper collection. It would also make a great filler
till you get a genuine M37 Normandy helmet which is highly
unlikely as very few M37's survived the war!
This item comes in a suitable aged box and a
'send home' label! A great present for the military collector!
