Danish M40 Schalburg Corps SS Parade Helmet : This is a genuine German WW2 M40 helmet painted in satin black. The decal is reproduction and represents a helmet worn by the guard unit of the Danmark Schalburg Corps - SS. The Schalburg Corps (danish: Schalburgkorps) was a Danish volunteer army corps and a branch of the Germanic-SS. Named after Christian Frederik von Schalburg, commander of the Frikorps Danmark who was killed in combat operations in the Demyansk Pocket in 1942. The Danish Germanic-SS was formed on February 2, 1943. On March 30 the corps was renamed to Schalburg Corps. Members who had not had any Eastern Front combat experience had to go through a six week political indoctrination and combat training. In July 1944, the Schalburg Corps was incorporated into the SS as SS Training Battalion Schalburg. Six months later it was renamed the SS Guard Battalion Zealand. It was officially disbanded on February 28, 1945. Von Schalburg was an officer in the Danish army, and the Danish government had made an agreement that officers who wished to join the SS to fight in Russia against bolchevism could do so without repercussions. This was however revoked after WWII. The helmet is a genuine WW2 M40, the paintwork is original and the decal like the originals is hand painted and aged appropriately. The liner is a well aged reproduction M31 aluminium version with square bales and the reproduction chinstrap is marked 'DRP 1940'. The helmet is a Size 64 and marked 'NS64' indicating that it was made by the Vereinigte Deutsche Nikelwerke plant in Schwerte. the batch number is 'DN94'.
