German M35 Waffen SS (Schutzstaffeln) Russia & Normandy Helmet : This is a genuine German WW2 helmet repainted in apple green, then repainted in white whitewash and then repainted again in dark green with sand. It has superb reproduction decals. It has the early pattern 'SS' runes on the right hand side and the national swastika on the left hand side, both showing appropriate wear and ageing. This combination of decals was discontinued later in the war. This helmet (original), recreates those used by the Waffen SS in Russia in 1941 onwards and in particular the Stalingrad Campaign with later use in Normandy. The owner has painted round the decals at each repaint. The helmet has two markings: '1356' at the rear edge, faint - which is the batch or production number and 'XX6X' at the left side, very faint (where X indicates unknown), which is the manufacturer number and helmet size (64). The liner and chinstrap are post war and both suitable aged. The chinstrap has had two field repairs and also has a RB Number indicating it as a later war replacement strap. There is light rust spots coming through the paintwork in various places. Part of the liner is stained with very dark red colouring which is turning black with age. The whitewash is cracking in places indicating a old helmet and one used in varying weather conditions (hot and cold). Finally, there is also an acceptance dome stamp in the helmet crown. I repeat the helmet is 100% genuine and the decals and paint work are post war! A great item for the Waffen SS, Stalingrad, Normandy or German Helmet collector! An original in this condition would be worth thousands of pounds!
