German WW1 Deutschland Waffen SS Helmet : This is a genuine German WW1 M16 helmet repainted in apple green, then again repainted in satin black for the Deutschland Waffen SS. It has then further ageing and rusting applied to recreate a magnificent Deutschland SS parade helmet. In 1938 Hitler declared that the SSVT would have a role in domestic as well as foreign affairs, which transformed this growing armed force into the rival that the army had feared. Special schools at Bad Tölz and Braunschweig were created to train future SS officers. Hausser also created two new SS regiments. Deutschland and Germania were formed from various battalions of the Verfügungstruppe and would be the foundation for the Das Reich and Wiking divisions. The Helmet: The helmet has been painted initially in dark apple green as the original WW1 helmets were. It has then been painted in satin black but the inside has been left apple green as the majority of the original helmets were, as the liners were covered up with newspapers during the spraying process. The SS were in short supply of helmets during the late 1930's and utilised WW1 Helmets extensively. This is known as a transitional helmet. The metal liner band is a replacement 1931 model and is also genuine adding the the value of the helmet. The chinstrap is an aged RZM SS Chinstrap's, suitably marked with runes and RZM stamp. The front rim fold has corroded slightly as has one small section of the side and there are a few tiny holes on the top, adding to the authenticity! The owners name and regiment has been painted inside the rear rim of the helmet: 'SS Deutschland T Weidinger'. Genuine transitional helmets are $10000 upwards, if you can source one! The pictures do not do this helmet justice, it is much darker and collectable in hand! If you like SS Parade helmets then this very rare model is one for your collection!
