German M42
Polish Home Army Helmet : This is
a genuine German WW2 helmet painted originally in satin black
and repainted with the Polish resistance colours. In 1944
the Home Army (Armia Krajowa, AK) attempted to liberate Warsaw
from the German occupation, it lasted 63 days. Polish losses
amounted to 18,000 soldiers killed and 25,000 wounded, in
addition to between 120,000 and 200,000 civilian deaths, mostly
from mass murders conducted by retreating German troops.
The helmet has two markings: '2416' at the rear
edge, faint - which is the batch or production number and
'ET62' at the left side, faint, which is the manufacturer
number and helmet size (62). There is an army acceptance stamp
dated 1942 inside the helmet shell.
There is no liner or chinstrap, the decals
have been removed but the outline of them can be seen quite
clearly. This may have been an armed police or Allgemeine
SS helmet. The Polish Home Army helmet has a handpainted Polish
eagle on the front and the polish flag colours on the left
hand side. The white paint is yellowed with age and shows
'age lines' in places. There is light rusting to the top dome.
The helmet is 100% genuine German and the decal
markings and paint work are post war! A great item for the
Warsaw Uprising, Polish or German military collector.
